5. PLEASE provide a candid evaluation of the applicant’s past performance and ability to pursue and successfully complete a teaching assistantship in the United States. Your statement will be given considerable importance by the American universities/colleges reviewing this application, and should, therefore, be as complete and detailed as possible:
I have known Arzik for 2 years as her English instructor at Pitirim Sorokin State University, and I enthusiastically support her application to the FLTA program. Being a Fulbright FLTA alumna myself (2014-15), I can assure you that Arzik's intelligence, enthusiasm, creativity, and leadership qualities make her a perfect match to the FLTA program.
I came to know her very well when she was a student in my Academic Writing and Creative Writing classes during her junior and senior years at the University. Being an exceptionally hard-working and diligent student, Arzik always took her studies seriously and showed great interest in all her subjects. Her inbred curiosity and thirst for knowledge helped her excel academically as she was always eager to study beyond courses’ limits and share her newly acquired knowledge with her fellow students. What is more, Arzik always was eager to participate in group discussions in class and always contributed fresh and original ideas. She was a very responsible, disciplined, and conscientious student, who always did her class assignments well, demonstrating a high degree of intellectual abilities and a strong command of the English language.
During her studies, Arzik also proved to be a very talented foreign language teacher during her school teaching practice, capable of managing language classes, finding correct approach to her students, and creating positive learning environment. Arzik is a very organized, skilled and devoted young English teacher who is always very friendly, compassionate and eager to help and give advice to her students and provide special tutoring for students experiencing difficulties in studying. I believe her to be very effective in student teaching because she always tries to select and adapt effective and suitable language teaching strategies to use in class in order to create a positive learning environment for her students. I am sure that her devotion to her job and her genuine interest in sharing her knowledge and teaching the English language appeals to her students and encourages them to study better.
Arzik is very friendly, open-minded, compassionate, and helpful. She loves her native language and culture, and is always ready to share her love and knowledge with foreigners. Moreover, her exemplary planning and organizational skills along with a high degree of creativity and enthusiasm, will definitely help Arzik organize engaging and informative Russian classes, language tables and other language activities at her host institution. Her presence and knowledge of current events will encourage her American students' interest in the study of the target language and culture. Arzik is a very sociable person, and will be able to construct and maintain friendly relations with her American students and colleagues. I am sure that she will demonstrate the same enthusiasm for participating in the FLTA Program as she did for her own studies and teaching during her school teaching practice.
I believe that taking part in your program will give Arzik a wonderful opportunity to improve her English skills and gain valuable insights into the educational system and culture of the United States. I have no doubt that Arzik has all the necessary skills and determination to contribute greatly to the FLTA Program!
