Michael Jordan is one of the best players in the history of basketball. He was born on February 17, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York. As a teenager, Michael hated losing. However, he always spent a lot of time playing basketball. When he understood he was good at the game, it became his dream.

He did not want to have an ordinary life. Journalists asked him once: "Why did you become a basketball player? ", and he answered: "I did not want to have an eight-to-five job. I wanted something else ".

In 1984 he started his career in the NBA as a Chicago Bulls player. He did not play for three seasons from 1998-99 through 2000-01, but returned to play the game he loves with the Washington Wizards in 2001.

Michael Jordan is not only famous as a basketball player. In 1996 he starred in the film called "Space Jam ".

Although "Air Jordan " is one of the most popular sportsmen on earth, he is still shy and friendly. He and his wife Juanita have three children: Jeff, Marcus and Jasmine, who love playing basketball with their father.

Text 13.Australia

The Commonwealth of Australia is a self governing federal state. It is situated in the south-west of the Pacific Ocean, occupying the continent of Australia and a great number of islands of which Tasmania is the most important. Australia is a continent-island washed by the Indian and the Pacific Oceans. The country consists of 6 (six) states and 2 (two) territories. 16 million people live in Australia. The capital is Canberra. The official language is English. Australia has a Parliament has two chambers, the House of Representatives and the Senate. The government of the country is headed by the Prime Minister. Australia is not only far from the rest of the world, it has a bad climate, too. The climate is better in the east and south-east, where most big cities have grown-up. But the northern coast has too much rain, and the western coast is too dry. The highest part of Australia and almost all the mountains are near the coast. The whole central part of the country is dry; it never rains, there are no large rivers and no water there. So there is no very rich plant life in Australia, except in the east and south-east. Australia is an important producer and exporter of primary products: wool, meat, sugar, fruit, black, coal, iron, copper, lead, gold and so on. Most of the factories are situated near big cities. There are 5 (five) big cities in Australia: Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and bras bane. These cities are also the country's main ports. Canberra was specially planned as a capital. It is a quiet city. All the government buildings are situated there. There no industrial plants in the city. About 300000 people live in Canberra. Sydney is the oldest and largest city in Australia. It was founded in 1788. Sydney is a big industrial centre. About 3 million people now live in the city.

Приложение 1

God save our gracious Queen

long live our noble Queen,

God save the Queen!

Send her victorious,

happy and glorious,

long to reign over us:

God save the Queen!

O Lord our God arise,

Strike down her enemies,

And make them fall:

Confound their politics,

Frustrate their knavish tricks,

On thee our hopes we fix:

God save us all!

Thy choicest gifts in store

on her be pleased to pour;

long may she reign;

may she defend our laws,

and ever give us cause

to sing with heart and voice

"God save the Queen!"

I.Oh, say, can you see, the dawn s early light

What so proudly we hailed at the twilight s last gleaming?

Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro the perilous fight,

O er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming.

And the rocket s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,

Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.

Oh, say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave

O er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

II

On the shore dimly seen, thro the mists of the deep,

Where the foe s haughty host in dread silence reposes,

What is that which the breeze, o er the towering steep,

As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?

Now it catches the gleam of the morning s first beam,

In fully glory reflected, now shines on the stream:

Tis the star-spangled banner: oh, long may it wave

O er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

III

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore

That the havoc of war and the battle s confusion

A home and a country should leave us no more!

Their blood has vanished out their foul footsteps pollution.

No refuge could save the hireling and slave

From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:

And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave

O er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

IV

Oh, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand.

Between their loved home and the war s desolation:

Blest with vict ry and peace, may the heav n-rescued land

Praise the Power that has made and preserved us a nation.

Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just.

And this be our motto: "In God is our trust".

And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave

O er the land of the free and the home of the brave
