Roadtec Seat Design Maximizes Visibility of Rear Augers at All Times Thursday, September 04, 2008 - Roadtec Inc/Astec Industries
Paver operators must have the ability to quickly visually check the rear auger of their machine to make sure material levels are where they are supposed to be for a quality paving job. That is why Roadtec engineers designed the new pavers seats to slide out to the side in a straight line instead of swinging out on an arc.
The straight sideways movement of the seat results in a position that allows the operator excellent visibility down the side of the machine and also to the rear augers. It’s important to visually check augers because mix should always be halfway up on the augers over the entire width of the auger delivery system.
Augers should never be buried in mix at any point. Augers should never be raised too high because this could cause mix to push forward under the paver. If there’s too much or too little material around the auger, problems in the paved surface will result. Paving speed, flow gate settings, and feed sensor position regulate material flow.
Being able to easily see the augers allows the operator to monitor these variables and to deliver mix evenly across the augers and thus across the entire leading edge of the screed plate, which is a requirement for a segregation-free mat.

5 November 2008
A leading Russian civil engineering contractor has purchased hundreds of JCB products – a deal worth around $57.5 million – to work on two of the region’s highest profile construction projects.
The order was announced recently as Tim Burnhope, managing director of JCB Sales, joined a delegation of business leaders to Russia led by business secretary Lord Mandelson.
The contractor, MOCT, will use the equipment on road, bridge and tunnel improvements to the Winter Olympic transport infrastructure at Sochi, on the Black Sea Coast, and again in Vladivostok, for the construction of a road bridge in advance of the 2012 Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) summit.
As part of the massive deal, MOCT has ordered JCB Generators, JCB 3CX and JCB 4CX backhoe loaders, JS200W and JS160W wheeled excavators, JCB456 wheeled loading shovels, JCB Robot skid steer loaders and JS330 Auto tracked excavators – all supplied by JCB’s dealer, Lonmadi.
Burnhope said: “MOCT is one of the largest civil engineering contractors in Russia. This substantial order is a further endorsement of JCB products and the service and support offered by our dealer in European Russia, Lonmadi.
“The new depot is part of a continuing expansion program for the JCB dealer network, which now has over 70 sales and services branches throughout Russia. Another key part of MOCT’s decision to purchase JCB machines was the newly opened parts centre in Moscow, which supports customers with same-day or next-day parts delivery.”
