PRONOUNS MUCH/MANY

 

 

Употребление

 

MUCH много 1. В качестве местоимения-прилагательного употребляется перед неисчисляемыми существительными главным образом в вопросительных и отрицательных предложениях: Do you spendmuchtime on your homework? I haven’tmuchwork to do today.   2. Употребляется в роли наречия: He does not read very much.  
MANY много В качестве местоимения-прилагательного употребляется перед исчисляемыми существительными главным образом в вопросительных и отрицательных предложениях: Has hemanyfriends in Moscow? I haven’t manyEnglish books.  
MUCH MANY много В утвердительных предложениях употребляются только со словами very (очень), rather (довольно), too (слишком), how (как), so (так) или когда они служат подлежащим или определением к подлежащему: You spenttoo muchtime on this translation. He has so manyfriends at the University.   В других случаях в утвердительных предложениях вместо much употребляется a lot (of), lots (of), plenty (of), a good deal (of), a great deal (of), а вместо manya lot (of), lots (of), plenty (of), a great many, a good many: Russia exportsa great deal oftimber. There are plenty ofEnglish books in the library.  
MUCH многое, значительная часть MANY многие В качестве местоимения-существительного употребляются с предлогом of: Much of what you say is true. Many of the third-year students will take part in this work.

 

 

PRONOUNS LITTLE/FEW

 

LITTLE мало В качестве местоимения-прилагательного употребляется перед неисчисляемымисуществительными: I have verylittletime.  
FEW мало В качестве местоимения-прилагательного употребляется перед исчисляемыми существительными: There were veryfewpeople there.  
LITTLE мало FEW мало   В утвердительных предложениях little и few часто заменяются not much и not many в тех случаях, когда они не определяются одним из слов very (очень), rather (довольно), too (слишком), how (как), so (так): I haven’t gotmuchtime(вместо: I’ve gotlittletime). There aren’tmanyFrench books in our library(вместо: There arefewFrench books in our library).  
LITTLE мало, немногое   FEW немногие   Употребляются в качестве местоимения-существительного: Little has been said about it. Many people were invited butfewcame.
A LITTLE немного   A FEW немного несколько   A little и a few употребляются в смысле некоторое, хотя и небольшое количество, в то время как little и few употребляются в смысле недостаточно, почти нет: I’ve gotlittle time. – У меня мало (недостаточно) времени. I’ve gota little time. – У меня есть немного времени. He hasfew friends. – У него мало (почти нет) друзей. He hasa few friends.–У него есть несколько друзей.
