10. Каким образом сок поднимается по стволам деревьев, особенно высоких? Наверняка существует разность давлений между корнями дерева и его кроной. За счет чего она возникает? Действует ли дерево как всасывающий насос?

Если так, то не должна ли высота деревьев быть ограничена 10м - ведь именно такова высота подъема воды всасывающим насосом? По-видимому, в деревьях действует какой-то другой механизм. Дайте объяснение данному явлению.

 

11. Почему перелетные птицы летят V-образным строем? Объясняется ли это какими-либо физическими причинами или это просто одна из любопытных особенностей птиц? Должна ли форма стаи быть симметрична, если такая форма обусловлена законами аэродинамики?

Нужно ли при этом, чтобы все птицы синхронно взмахивали крыльями? Какое преимущество имеет «клин» перед другими построениями – скажем, «гуськом» или зигзагом? Почему птицы не летают «косяками», как плавают рыбы?

        

12. М.Е.Салтыков-Щедрин описывает в «Господах Головлевых» такую сцену: «Порфирий Владимирович сидит у себя в кабинете, исписывая цифирными выкладками листы бумаги. Попробуйте по приведенным цифрам рассчитать, сколько процентов платил в то время ломбард по вкладам. Возраст Порфирия в момент его расчетов принять равным пятидесяти годам. Оцените правильность своих расчетов.

 

13. Из завещания А.А. Аракчеева:

« Я, нижеподписавшийся, вношу в нынешнем 1833 г. пятьдесят тысяч рублей ассигнациями в Государственный заемный банк, с тем, чтобы сия сумма осталась в оном 93 года неприкосновенно со всеми приращаемыми на оную в продолжение сего времени процентами, без малейшего ущерба и изъятия.

 14. В чем причина дальтонизма? Почему людям, страдающим этим заболеванием, запрещается вождение автотранспортных средств?

Составьте цепочку логических доказательств в ответ на поставленный вопрос. Попытайтесь объяснить собеседнику, страдающему дальтонизмом, почему ему нельзя садиться за руль.

 

15. Писатель Б. Васильев, рассматривая проблему демократии, пишет: «… Ощущается она нами как своего рода дозволение. А следует-то ее ощущать как нельзя. Нельзя нарушать законы, Конституцию, увольнять работников по желанию начальников…» Что бы вы добавили к этому перечню?

16. Искусство и наука обогащают друг друга. Подтверждением этой точки зрения могут быть замечательные слова великого физика Нильса Бора: "Причина, почему искусство может нас обогатить, заключается в его способности напоминать нам о гармониях, недосягаемых для систематического анализа".

Какова Ваша точка зрения? Каким образом искусство оказывает влияние на человека? Приведите примеры, когда искусство помогало делать великие открытия?

Cleaner Rain?

Chemicals call sulfatespuff out of coal-burning factories around the world. When the sulfates mix with clouds, acid rain falls and harms lakes, rivers and plants – and the creatures that needs them. Also, the wind blows the air around. So, the sulfates from one place can fall as acid rain many miles away. The good news is that many countries are working hard to end acid rain. Scientists are figuring out ways to make coal burn more cleanly. And it many parts from North America, the amount of sulfates in the air has dropped. So, less acid rain is falling!

 Good Energy News

When we burn coal and oil for energy, we cause pollution. But little by little we’re getting more energy the from the sun and the wind. This energy is clean and renewable (that means we’ll never run out of it). Energy from the sun now helps heat and light more than 100,000 homes in the United States. More good news: many electric companies have discovered that saving energy is better than making more energy. So they can send experts to homes in the U.S. to look for energy “leaks” – places where energy is being wasted. Everyone needs to have his/her home checked for leaks.

Services since 1989. My responsibility is to educate the public, including children about environmental issues.

We also have schools here called the Green Schools. These children learn how to protect the environment. They learn how to clean our lakes and rivers. And they learn how to test the quality of the water. The children now know that they should not litter. That means they should not throw their trash in the streets or parks. They also learn that a lot of their trash can be recycled. Things such as tin, steel and aluminum cans, glass, some plastics, newspapers and magazines can be made into new products. Office paper, tires, and telephone books can also be recycled. It is not only important for people to bring used products to a place where they can be recycled. It is also important to buy recycled products. For example, in the United States you can buy recycled paper. We should all look for recycled products when we go to the store.

When new homes and buildings are built, the trees that are removed are replanted in parks and on college campuses. The children from green Schools help replant these trees.

What can you do to protect the environment? Look at what you throw away and try to throw away less. Try to reuse products and don’t litter. We all need to work together to keep our world green!

How do the meteorologists know what the weather will be like tomorrow or next week? Many years ago meteorologists tried to forecast by looking at it. That did not work very well, because weather moves very quickly. Soon meteorologists began drawing maps of the way weather moves. Meteorologists can see a picture of the weather for large areas on a map. Winter snow storms can be 1, 000 miles wide! You can only see storms this big on a map.

Until recently it was difficult to make weather maps, because meteorologists couldn't get weather reports from all over the country or world fast enough. But today it is not difficult to get these reports quickly, because the whole world works together to make weather maps. There now weather forecast stations in many places in the world. Meteorologists can send weather reports from one country to another in seconds! Weather satellites, airplanes, ships and balloons help meteorologists. Computers are also used to put storms, temperature, and wind direction on the maps, so meteorologists do not have to draw the maps by hand.
