We use prepositions of time to say when something happens, happened or will happen. The most common ones are at, in, and on.

 

AT IN ON

Exercise IX. Say each word or phrase with the correct preposition.

 

Model: in March, at Christmas

The Victoria Hotel

The Victoria is a large and comfortable hotel in the centre of Oxford. It has 66 double rooms and 43 single rooms, all with private bathrooms. There are two restaurants, a coffee shop, a bar, and a beautiful lounge. All the bedrooms have colour television, telephones and central heating. The hotel has a lift and a car park.

MODAL VERBS

Модальные глаголы используются только с основными глаголами. Они не выражают действие, а лишь отношение к действию, т.е. возможность, необходимость, просьбу, разрешение.

 

Can- Can’t Must – Mustn’t
1. Умственная способность Ican speak English (мочь, уметь). 1. Соблюдение правил, предписаний You mustn’t smoke in hospital. It’s against the rules. (не должны)
2. Физическая способность Не сan swim well (мочь, уметь). 2. Выполнение обязанностей Imust do my homework
3. Разрешение You can stay, if you want. Вы можете остаться, если хотите. 3. Выполнение строгих советов You must see a doctor. You mustn’t eat so many sweets.
4. Просьба Can you tell me the time, please? Вы не могли бы сказать мне, который час? 4. Запрещение Youmustn’t be late for work
5. Просьба о разрешении Can I use your pen? Можно мне воспользоваться вашей ручкой?
6. Отказ в разрешении No, you can’t use my pen. I need it.

Exercise II. Think of the factors that could help us live longer. Rewrite the following sentences as in the example. Use must, or mustn’t.

Affirmative Negative Interrogative

Time expressions used with be going to : tomorrow, this weekend, next Monday/Tuesday, next month/year /etc.  

 

We use be going to:

 

1. to talk about our future plans and intentions.

He is going to play (собирается, намеревается играть) tennis tomorrow afternoon.

 

2. to make predictions(прогноз, предсказание) based on what we can see.

It’s going to rain. There are dark clouds in the sky. (I can see clouds).

 

Exercise I. This is Robert’s diary. Look at it and say, please, what he is going to do next week.

ADJECTIVES

 

Для описания предметов, людей, животных мы используем прилагательные. Прилагательные стоят перед существительными и также могут стоять после глагола to be

 

hotwater, a nice house, a pretty girl, a wild animal, a noisy child, beautiful flowers.

It’s a new car. The car is new.

ADVERBS

 

slow +ly = slowly

loud +ly = loudly

simple +ly= simply

angry+ ly =angrily

careful + ly= carefully

Dear Lucy, How are you? My new house is just great. It’s on a quiet street. It’s got a beautiful garden in front of it with lots of lovely flowers. My house has got three floors. On the ground floor there is a huge living room, a dining room, a modern kitchen and a small bathroom. On the first floor there are three bedrooms and two small bathrooms. My bedroom is at the top of the house in the attic. I love it. There is a light pink carpet, a nice bed, a small desk for my homework, and an old wardrobe next to the window.
