В рамках предлагаемого практического занятия студенты работают с текстом практического занятия 6(12). Для того, чтобы они смогли рассказать на английском языке о буровой вышке, им необходимо владетьновой лексикой,данной в практическом занятии 6 и 5 ( 11). По грамматике – повторение действительного и страдательного залога.

Derrick

Drilling equipment is a complex of equipment designated for well drilling. The main rig components are derrick, substructures, drawworks, rotary table, mud pumps, prime movers and auxiliary equipment such as crownblock, swivel, hook, bits(drills), rotary hose, drilling line and so on.

Derrickis a four sided pyramidal structure of square cross section. The function of the derrick is to provide a vertical clearance required for drill string lifting and lowering into and out of well during the drilling operations. It should be of sufficient height and strength to carry out all the operations.

There are derricks of two general types, standard and portable. A standard derrick is a framework over an oil well and is erected part by part. A portable derrick or mast is a construction that can be erected as a unit. The derrick is installed on a substructure. It is from 18 to 53 m high, but drilling derricks are usually 42, 53 m high. To facilitate rapid erection of drilling equipment and travel from one well location to another, the derrick may be replaced by a braced mast of unitary construction. Usually the mast is designed to facilitate its disassembly or component parts folding. They are small and light enough to be transported on trucks or tractors. These masts can be transported to a new well location and make ready for drilling service. It will take not too much time to erect and install such standard steel derrick.

The substructure is a support on which the derrick is rested. It must be of sufficient strength able to bear the proper loads providing 100% safety operation. Substructures are different in their dimensions depending on the type and weight of drilling equipment on them as well as on the quantity of control devices which are mounted too. Substructures may be made of concrete and metal.
